Gymnasts donate to the Estrela da Favela education project
Turner provides financial and organizational support to the Brazilian educational project Estrela da Favela. This year, in particular, there is a great need for such support. As a result, many Turner employees decided to make an extra contribution around Christmas. Martijn Babeliowsky of Turner provides an update.
Star of the Favela
Estrela da Favela is a wonderful educational project in Brazil that Turner has committed to supporting. It was founded in 2012 by Edwin Roodenburg of the Netherlands and Edna Silveira of Brazil. Every day, classes are held for more than 100 children ages 4 to 14 in one of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas. Turner provides organizational and financial support to this project.
Need for emergency aid
Evelien Hellenthal, one of the initiators of the collaboration within Turner: “Because of the coronavirus, life looks very different for these children, too. Schools are still closed, and the Brazilian economy is taking a hit.” . “Many families are now struggling to meet their basic needs. That’s why Estrela da Favela delivers food packages in addition to providing homework help.”
Donation
Many Turners therefore decided to make an extra contribution around Christmas. Together, our colleagues donated 2,150 euros—enough for about 35 food packages worth 60 euros each. That’s enough to support families for two weeks.
