Our innovation research
Turner’s Jacques Pijl has started a new academic (Phd) study together with Amsterdam Business School. What are the key execution skills leveraged by companies that are succesful in innovation? What is the pattern in how such business such businesses manage and execute their portfolio on initiatives? And, how can other organisations benefit from those learnings?
From multiple case studies involving leading international businesses we will come to fresh, solid insights into innovation. We will answer that burning question in many mature organisations and industries: how to be good at innovation?
Organizations such as DSM, Unilever, Nestle, ING, AkzoNobel, PostNL, Allen & Overy, Shell, Heineken, ASML, NXP, Van Oord, Randstad, FrieslandCampina, Springer, Vebego, Wurth, Cosun, NFI, and NVWA participated in previous Turner research projects. The most recent research project resulted in the publication of the bestselling management book Strategy = Execution. Following through on this project, the Innovation = Execution study will work with a similar group of leading businesses.
Organisations eager to gain fresh insights into their own execution capacity are welcome to participate in the study.
Jacques Pijl and Niels van der Weerdt PhD lead the research team, supervised by Prof. Henk Volberda, director van het Amsterdam Centre for Business Innovation.

1. Kickstarting innovation
Turner has 25 years experience been speeding up strategy execution. A third of any organisation’s portfolio of initiatives should consist of innovation projects. But in practice, innovation oftentimes ends up on the bottom of the list of priorities. And yet, it’s innovation that helps companies keep up with new developments, to deliver more value in the long term. Together, we will create a three-year plan for innovation and create a balanced portfolio of initiatives. We set up an innovation funnel – and make it work: starting up an scaling up innovations.
2. Speeding up innovation
Successful innovation is all about hard work and perseverance. Turner has a proven innovation methodology that speeds up the realisation of innovations.
