A lot is being asked of teachers, support staff, and administrators right now to get the situation under control. It\u2019s all very frustrating, but it also presents some great opportunities\u2014opportunities to really accelerate educational innovation. Increasingly, this involves education innovation\u2014such as personalized learning paths with tailored guidance, greater flexibility and digitization, modern pedagogy and tools, adaptive learning, and so on. In practice, however, most educational institutions appear to have great difficulty in truly achieving the necessary impact in these areas. We described this, for example, in the research report \u201cColleges: Where Is the Real Innovation?\u201d And now, suddenly, that\u2019s changing\u2014at lightning speed.     <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-66a2f32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"66a2f32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">To Learn at Lightning Speed for Learning\u200b<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89447be elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"89447be\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We are therefore seeing a tremendous sense of solidarity among all educational institutions as they work to overcome this crisis. In a short period of time, tremendous strides are being made to ensure that education can continue, with maximum use of digital tools. And yes, some teachers are more adept at this than others. And no, it\u2019s not perfect right away, and things do go wrong. But everyone is making progress, and the learning curve is steep. Just take a look at the great examples on communities.surf.nl and lesopafstand.nl.     <\/p><p> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dbf6b58 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dbf6b58\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>\u201cHow can you continue to innovate after the COVID-19 crisis?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-700c170 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"700c170\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Continuous innovation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e8c0b9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3e8c0b9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The COVID-19 crisis actually presents the perfect opportunity to permanently shift educational innovation into a higher gear. To reinforce this shift\u2014and to prevent you from falling back into old patterns later on\u2014we\u2019re sharing three must-dos. These are actions you need to take now to make the most of this unique opportunity for innovation:  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-638febe elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"638febe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Define what you want to learn from this time of crisis  <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c4c457 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c4c457\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We are, in fact, embarking on a very large experiment. Experiments require clear learning objectives\u2014both with regard to Education itself and with regard to how we work (together) on Innovation. What do we want to learn about our distance education? And, how effective are certain teaching methods? What do we want to learn about a different approach to implementation? Consider, for example: What are the Success Factors in short-cycle implementation? Or: What can we learn about effective and efficient meetings and decision-making?       <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27f2ddf elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"27f2ddf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Gather evidence\u200b<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a3e6d32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a3e6d32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To truly learn from this experience, you need to carefully document how this \u201cexperiment\u201d is progressing and turning out. There are various ways to do this. Fortunately, digital education offers opportunities to collect a lot of data. It also helps if those involved (teachers, support staff, students) document their experiences so that they can be shared later.   <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e767440 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e767440\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Organize a reflection and evaluation process\u200bevaluation process<\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2d570d0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2d570d0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Once the storm has died down a bit, it\u2019s important to start a dialogue with one another. How can we translate these experiences into concrete steps toward the desired educational innovation within our institution? Undoubtedly, after this experience, people are more open to innovation. After all, it\u2019s clear that some things really do work (while others do not). Therefore, explicitly identify the \u201ckey areas to focus on\u201d with regard to both Education and the approach to educational innovation.    <\/p><p> <\/p><p>In any case, we\u2019ll be closely following these developments over the coming months and would love to hear about your examples and experiences.
