On Wednesday afternoon, June 10, 2026, Turner will host the master class “Education Portfolio Management.” It is intended for administrators, executives, and policy advisors at educational institutions in vocational education and higher education.
Recognizing that a future-proof and relevant educational portfolio is crucial does not mean that it can be successfully implemented. Especially since demographic trends are leading to lower enrollment and putting pressure on decision-making, the question is more urgent than ever: How do you achieve a breakthrough in integrated educational portfolio management?
What can you expect?
During the master class on educational portfolio management, we will discuss:
A pragmatic, development-oriented approach to refining, launching, merging, and phasing out programs within an integrated educational portfolio management framework. From the institution’s perspective.
Conducting a structured dialogue on strategic choices within the program portfolio.
Fostering dialogue through data-driven insights and relevant comparisons with colleagues, based on a data product developed by Turner.
We draw on research and practical experience, and—together withJos van Kessel, chair of the Board of Trustees at Koning Willem 1 College—we’ll discuss the lessons learned and delve into a real-life case study.
Intimate setting, focus on results
In a manner characteristic of Turner, we offer an intimate setting with a maximum of 30 participants. This fosters mutual trust and an action-oriented focus on implementation. We address both the technical and soft aspects of the issue, engage in interactive exercises, and share experiences and real-world examples. We do this alongside industry colleagues who are grappling with the same questions and contribute their own experiences—both successful and less successful. The focus is on learning from one another; Turner consultants provide the structure and workshop formats and share their own experiences.
Participants on the Masterclass in Integrated Education Portfolio Management
Patrick Bemelmans, director of the Academy for Communication and Creative Business at NHL Stenden: “We’ve gone through this process ourselves before. So we know that portfolio management is very helpful in assessing where you stand. But it’s just as important to come together and meet people who are also interested in this topic. It’s really nice to hear how they think about their portfolios. I’m used to taking a broad view, so I’m always interested in how others deal with these issues, especially when people are as open as they are today.”
Antoine Kunst, Director of Operations at HZ University of Applied Sciences: “This is an issue that affects everyone, everywhere. I think I’ll discuss it with our team right away tomorrow. The tool can certainly help us make decisions as well.” He was pleased to have the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues about portfolio management. “Of course, we talk to each other more often, but I was glad to have the chance to meet people here from the rest of the country who are dealing with the same issues. I also find the presence of colleagues from vocational education valuable; it’s interesting to hear how they view certain things. Thinking things through together always makes it easier.”

Providing a relevant and appealing educational program that meets the needs of the labor market and society is a timeless goal.
That need is constantly evolving, which calls for active development of the program portfolio—by launching new programs and further developing, merging, or phasing out existing ones. At the same time, financial pressures are mounting: demographic decline is leading to a decrease in student enrollment. This requires, among other things, a critical (re)evaluation of the portfolio of degree programs, both within individual institutions and collectively across the region.
Everyone recognizes the need, but how do you put this into practice?
Consistently focusing on and developing a future-proof portfolio of educational programs is no easy task. We all know it has to be done, but achieving a breakthrough is complex. Often, there is a lack of:
- A clear vision for the future of the education portfolio.
- A structured process and dialogue aimed at well-considered action.
- Relevant and well-supported facts to inform decision-making: insight into the issues, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks, while also offering a course of action.
We'll get started on this together on Wednesday, June 10!
