TOUR DE TURNER 2024: THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Turner, De Boom Estate, Leusden – Friday afternoon, September 13, was entirely dedicated to the Tour de Turner 2024, the sports-themed networking event for executives and managers. This year, participants immersed themselves in an Olympic atmosphere, “Les Jeux Olympiques,” with special guest and Olympic champion Mark Tuitert in attendance.

The16th edition of the corporate cycling event kicked off at the De Boom estate in Leusden. Participants began arriving at 12:30. A delicious lunch and fresh coffee served by a barista ensured that everyone could set off with a full stomach.

Patrick Eppink of Turner opened the event with a welcome speech. This was followed by the starting signal for the participants, who had the choice between a road bike route or a mountain bike course. Accompanied by the Turner speed skating team, the groups of up to ten people cycled along the scenic routes, while taking the time to get to know each other better.

League
New this year was the competitive element: a 1,000-meter race in which participants could measure their speed against their teammates. Of course, the competition was interspersed with relaxation, because after the sprint, there was time for refreshments on a sunny terrace.

Return and Inspiration
After an afternoon of sports, the participants returned to Landgoed De Boom at the end of the afternoon, where, under the guidance of Yanick Mollema from Turner, they were treated to an inspiring talk by Mark Tuitert, who took the audience on a journey through his story about elite sports, mental strength, and personal development. Tuitert shared valuable lessons on how to cope with setbacks. His candor and passion made for a wonderful conclusion to the day.

WHAT THE DAY WAS LIKE:

FIVE LESSONS FROM MARK TUITERT

Tuitert emphasized the importance of a stoic mindset, which has helped him both in his career as a top athlete and in his personal life. Five lessons that promote mental resilience and success, according to Tuitert:

  1. Setbacks as Growth
Tuitert compares setbacks to physical training: every challenge makes you stronger, as long as you’re willing to learn from it. Setbacks aren’t obstacles—they’re opportunities for improvement.
  2. Less Judgment, More Understanding
Emotions stem from our judgment of situations, not the situations themselves. By analyzing and understanding emotions, you can respond more calmly and with greater balance.
  3. Focus on what you can influence
Focus only on the things you can control. This increases your chances of success, both in sports and in business settings.
  4. Team First
Stoicism teaches that, as an individual, you are stronger when you help others succeed. Collaborating and offering help lead to greater collective and personal successes.
  5. Character as a Priority
Courage and wisdom are important values that you must continually cultivate. They shape your personal growth and character.

The 2024 Tour de Turner was once again a huge success. See you at the next edition of the Tour de Turner!
