Recommendations for the Implementation of the New Payment Standards

Thijs Venneman of Turner gave a presentation during a lunch webinar hosted by the Dutch Payments Association (Betaalvereniging Nederland), an advocacy group for banks and other players in the payments sector. The webinar focused on the impact of the new global payment standard ISO 20022, which will take effect in 2022. The new payment standard will bring about a tremendous number of changes for banks—in IT, in the way they operate, and in compliance—worldwide. How do you go about implementing these changes?

Strategy Execution for Compliance

Thijs offered recommendations for the implementation of the new payment standards, drawing on his experience with compliance processes at regulatory agencies, the Ministry of Finance, and banks such as Rabobank and ABN AMRO. In his presentation, he offered tips for Strategy Execution behind this massive project—specifically, how to combine the “agile” approach of banks with the “waterfall” approach of regulators. How to engage both the “boardroom” and the “engine room.” How to involve all parts of the bank and external stakeholders without turning it into a top-heavy program.

Want to make headway on a massive project? It’s possible!
