Experience Hackathon 2024: AI in Education 2024. A look at innovation and collaboration in education
On 12, 13 and 14 June 2024, the third edition of the AI in Education Hackathon took place. The AI Hackathon, organized by the University of Twente and the Education Working Group of the Dutch AI Coalition (NL AIC), brought together eight teams with one goal: to improve the quality of education through smart technologies.
Over three intensive days, teams worked on innovative solutions for primary education, secondary education, secondary vocational education, and higher education. In the inspiring DesignLab at the University of Twente, they developed their ideas with the support of AI experts, known as JEDIs.
Each team presented unique applications:
- Aventus: Solli: ‘your job interview trAIner’, an AI trainer for job interviews.
- Graafschap College: Edutech AI, a tool that provides feedback on code.
- Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences: FLIP de AI, an AI tool for improved stakeholder analysis.
- HZ University of Applied Sciences: LEIA, creates an electronic learning environment.
- ROC van Twente: Tipop, a tool to prevent students from dropping out.
- Stormink: Bringing AI and creativity together.
- Windesheim: Socrabot, an AI tool that challenges students with questions.
- Koninklijke Auris Groep: Fabula, for creating learning content for students with language and learning difficulties.
On 14 June, the teams presented their ideas to an expert jury consisting of Bram Enning, Maurice Van Keulen, Jitske van Os, Imane Oulali, Claire Schaepelynck and Christel Wolterinck-Broekhuis. Koninklijke Auris Groep was announced as the winner with their tool Fabula, which generates texts and visualizations for primary school students with language and learning difficulties.

Wat is een hackathon?
Een hackathon is een intensief evenement waar deelnemers samenwerken aan innovatieve oplossingen voor specifieke uitdagingen. Tijdens deze hackathon, gericht op AI in het onderwijs, kregen teams ondersteuning van AI-experts en volgden ze vooraf online professionaliseringstrainingen.

Deze hackathon werd mogelijk gemaakt door de samenwerking van verschillende partners, waaronder de Universiteit Twente, NL AIC, SURF, NOLAI, Npuls, Kennisnet, en Turner Strategie = Executie. Samen werken we aan een toekomst waarin AI bijdraagt aan de verbetering en innovatie van onderwijs.
