Elite Sports and a (Bio)Medical Career: The Turner Speed Skating Team Proves It's Possible
The Turner speedskating team demonstrates that top-level performance and a demanding professional career need not be mutually exclusive. This combination has clearly resonated in the national media: from a wide-ranging NOS segment to in-depth background stories and sports coverage in daily newspapers.
NOS: The Story Behind the Achievements
The NOS highlighted the story of speed skaters who combine their jobs in healthcare with marathon speed skating. Among other things, the segment shows how the demands of (acute) healthcare and competing on the ice can follow one another in quick succession. Watch the segment here.
Trouw: You Don’t Have to Choose
Trouw highlighted what truly sets this team apart: at Team Turner, no one has to choose between a sports career and a professional career. The article emphasizes that neither area is merely an “add-on,” but that the team performs at a high level in both. Read the article here.
AD: Performance in a competitive setting
The AD reported on the marathon circuit and performances surrounding the Dutch National Championships from a sports perspective, mentioning Manon Gremmen, among others, in the context of the highest level of competition. Read the article here.
De Telegraaf: In-Depth Coverage of the Situation in Weissensee
De Telegraaf also covered the team, with an in-depth article about combining two passions and a preview of the Weissensee week. Read the article here.
This season, the team consists of: Eline Cox, Manon Gremmen, Judith Krabbenborg, Iza Stekelenburg, and Janet Beers. They combine elite sports with careers in the (bio)medical sector, demonstrating that elite sports and professional careers can reinforce one another. The coaching staff and support team consists of Bouke Gerritsma, Sharon Hendriks, Floor Besteman, and Willem van der Steen.
