Strong performance by the Turner Speed Skating Team at the Dutch National Distance Championships at Thialf
During the Daikin Dutch National Distance Championships, held from October 31 through November 2, 2025, Manon Gremmen and Iza Stekelenburg of the Turner Speed Skating Team took to the ice at a packed Thialf arena. We watched them live on NOS—and saw three strong races.
Iza Stekelenburg competed in the 3,000-meter race on Saturday and the 5,000-meter race on Sunday. Manon Gremmen skated in the mass start on Sunday—the spectacular event in which all skaters take to the ice at the same time and tactics, speed, and timing make all the difference. Both delivered convincing performances, ranking among the nation’s best.
About the Daikin National Distance Championships
The Daikin Dutch National Distances Championships is the first major tournament of the skating season and the official kick-off of the Olympic winter . From October 31 to November 2, the best Dutch skaters will compete for national titles as well as coveted World Cup tickets. The World Cups are especially important this season: there, the Netherlands can secure qualifying spots for the Olympic Games . The races will be held on the iconic 400-meter track at Thialf , where the audience traditionally sits close to the action.
