Team Turner's Roster, Featuring Daphne Alderts, Is Complete

It was a tough pill to swallow for the members of Team Turner when, last season, they were faced with the impending departure of team director Arjen Becker and team manager Michelle de Bruijn. Then rider Lisanne Buurman also announced her intention to retire. The team suddenly lost three key figures. It was a complicated situation, which was partially resolved when physical therapist Zoey van den Bosch stepped in to fill the gap.

With the arrival of Daphne Alderts as the fourth rider, Team Turner took the first step toward restoring the team’s full roster. As is well known, Alderts has been sidelined for a year and a half due to long COVID. The 24-year-old marathon skater was pleasantly surprised by the interest and didn’t have to think twice. “I think it’s special that Team Turner is willing to take a chance on me. Personally, I’m very optimistic—after intensive rehabilitation, I actually feel better than ever. During my vacation in Madeira, I could already feel my strength returning. The first group training sessions also went very well.”

Van den Bosch is confident about the role Alderts can play. “We’re thrilled to have her join us. She fits in really well with the team—we’re truly a team again.”

Alderts is joining from Team BTZ. She has several goals for the upcoming season. “The most important thing is to get back to full fitness. I want to push myself to the limit and contribute as much as possible to the team. The results will follow naturally. At the same time, I hope to have a lot of fun with the other members of Team Turner. Judging by how the past few weeks have gone, I’m sure it’ll work out.”

With Alderts’ arrival, Team Turner isn’t quite complete yet. Van den Bosch is actively searching for a new team manager, while the four riders themselves are focused on finding a co-sponsor. Just as in previous years, Piet Hijlkema—who is also the team manager for Team Bouwselect—has drawn up the training schedules. The team is very happy with Hijlkema and would love to keep him on board. “We’re hopeful that everything will work out,” says Van den Bosch.
